IT’S BULLS AND BRONCS VERSUS COWBOYS AT THE
SHOWDOWN AT STATE FAIR CORRAL
Bull riding and bucking bronc fans will want to mark their calendar for the end of September because that’s when an all new rough stock riding event is coming to Yakima. Called the Showdown at the State Fair Corral, the two-day event, to be held Friday and Saturday, September 28 & 29, will feature some of the toughest cowboys around as they battle it out in a bulls and broncs only competition during the annual Central Washington State Fair.
The Showdown will also feature one of the top horsemen in the world, Dan James of Australia, who will be performing some amazing feats with his trained horses.
James, who with his partner Guy McLean just won the prestigious “Road to the Horse” World Championship of colt starting competition in Tennessee, will be in Yakima for the entire 10-day Fair where he will turn a completely unbroken and untrained colt into a perfect saddle horse. The colt will then be sold at auction during the final performance of the Showdown on Saturday afternoon.
“The Showdown is an all new event for us,” said Fair president Greg Stewart. “It will feature 20 bull riders and 20 bronc riders in a fast-paced, action-packed competition.”
Daniel Beard of Ellensburg will provide the rough stock and some $20,000 in prize money will be up for grabs among the riders.
“Some of the best bull riders, bareback and saddle bronc riders in the West should be here to compete,” Stewart said. “And with Dan James here, it is going to be a great show!
